The Maya
Pyramids, palaces, & temples! This place is a jackpot on interesting. A fun fact on pyramids: each stone on a pyramid weighs more than a truck! If you’re looking for interesting, then read what I have to share with you.
The Maya area is located right under the USA east of Mexico. They build palaces, temples, & pyramids. The pyramids that they build aren’t exactly like the pyramids in Egypt because they have square tops and sometimes entrances at the top. You would think that the Mayan rulers would have slaves and peasants do the work, right? Actually, paid workers do the building of these beautiful structures. I’m not talking about being paid with money. I’m talking about getting paid with resources such as food & water.
The Mayan writing was created over 5,000 years ago. Their hieroglyphics definitely look interesting. Their calendar looks nothing like the one we have. It looks more like a neat carved stone, and my July 30th birthday on their calendar is 10 in the Caban Year Bearer. See example 1 for the hieroglyphics and example 2 for the calendar.
The Mayan art is different from our art. It’s not made with paint! The Maya’s art is actually made of materials, buildings, and carvings. Their art is beautiful. The Mayan music sounds beautiful but a bit eerie. I hear mostly flutes in Maya’s music. See example 3 of their art and example 4 for a link below to a Mayan song.
So that’s the Maya. It’s really a pretty neat place. They have their own unique writing, calendar, art, music, and buildings. The Maya truly is an amazing place.
